Patterns of Disease

As the three doshas of vata, pitta, and kapha become more imbalanced, they create specific patterns of disease. For example, diabetes, acid reflux, and arthritis are specific patterns that doshas may create in the body. These patterns have been recognized and discussed for thousands of years. In Vedic literature, they are referred to as the “seven groups of diseases” of mankind.

From where does our chronic disease originate? The tendency for most chronic diseases and even the rate of our aging is inherited from our parents.

In Ayurveda, the inherited tendency of chronic disease is called “Janma Prakruti”. It simply states that the mother and father pass along their full genetic “constitution”, or overall state of health, to the child. If the constitution of the mother or father is weak, it will be passed on to the child as well as other traits.

More recently, 200 years ago, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a brilliant physician practicing in Europe and the father of Homeopathy, referred to these patterns as “miasms” meaning “ghost of an illness”. He used this term because he felt most chronic conditions were inherited from our parents, grandparents, and sometimes even further back in our family history.

Miasms tend to linger through the family line regardless of the medical or herbal treatments. For example, if one of your ancestors had cancer, they were treated with the medicine of choice for their time. This treated the cancer but the miasm remained and was passed on to their children. One or more of the children and grandchildren may have then experienced some or all of the symptoms of the cancer miasm as they grew older. Other manifestations of the cancer miasm are exhaustion, depression, anxiety, feeling excessively obligated or sometimes overwhelmed, and obesity. The miasm's ability to be passed on to the next generation is why entire families have hereditary predispositions to various physical and emotional disorders.

Doshas are more basic and fundamental within the body than miasms. One way to think of it is that the three doshas are the actual building blocks for the seven miasms. The elements become imbalanced first. This creates the doshas. They, in turn, create the patterns of disease in the body called miasms.

Dr. Hahnemann discovered three of the seven miasms. They are syphilis, sycotic (gonorrhea), and psora. It was speculated later that there was a cancer miasm because of its prevalence in society. Unfortunately, the knowledge of the original seven diseases mentioned in Rik Veda have been lost through the years. However, through extensive research and working with thousands of clients worldwide, we feel we have successfully identified and addresssed the remaining four miasms. They are cancer, polio, TB, and yama. The complete understanding of the cancer, polio, and yama miasms are exclusive to the BodyVed program.

A very important BodyVed perspective to keep in mind about doshas and miasms; it makes no difference in the effectiveness and success of our program as to what we call a disease or even how it got there. This knowledge is only an aid for us to better understand how chronic disease is created.

Once the BodyVed procedures begin, strong purification will take place throughout the body regardless of the symptoms, how long they've been there, or what model we use for understanding them. The unified and undifferentiated field of intelligence of the body, born of pure consciousness, knows exactly how to heal itself of any disease. We only need to help it along.
